What I loved most about this mystery is the way I was led to it. The main character, Sarah, is surprised right along with me to find out how much she does not know about her husband Jack– even after years spent in a warm marriage raising two lovely daughters together.

She is reminded that she still has the heart of a journalist when a family tragedy exposes some of Jack’s secrets, and is determined to find out all the truths of his past that he has avoided telling her. As each new revelation blooms, the weight of all she doesn’t know brings a threat to the present, and the darkness of it all begins to blot out the light of their past. By the time I got to the end, I felt both shattered and triumphant.

Gudenkauf is a writer that knows how to deliver a thriller worth reading. Her pacing is fantastic, the characters are people you get to know, or think you do anyway, until you find out otherwise! The story is worth the time spent reading it.
